I guess you could say that I’m living on a high these days. I (along with Kathy Smyly Miller) just finished the first Business of Soul program. This past Wednesday was the end of the program retreat. Each person stood up and gave their acceptance speech.
It was very powerful for me. During the program, we have been discussing and conducting exercises on receiving of community. Then we took it out in the field. Each one of us got to go outside (or in some cases go deeper inside) to see how we show up in community.
I wanted to share some of the knowledge from the group. This tip is inspired by that knowledge.
If you wish to receive more community, then you get to shed light on where you are not allowing that to happen for yourself. The following suggestions about where they noticed where they could open up more to receive more of their community came from some of the Business of Soul peeps.
1. We All Want Community
We all want to feel wanted within a community. If you are being drawn to a networking event, a mastermind group, or a musical event, you are being drawn there because of some energy of that community. Sometimes it could be to connect with just one person. Alissa Okrent*, during the Business of Soul, shared with us her suggestion. This Outsider (Tone) suggested being open to the energy of why you are being drawn to that community and allow the miracles to occur.
2. Understand Your Value
Often we are looking to our communities to understand our value. That value is already inside of you and when you accept your community, it will reflect that back to you. Then you are open to seeing and hearing how your community has been supporting you all along. And who knows, you might learn something new about YOU that your community has seen all along. The Matriarch (Axiom of Quest), Linda Hunt*, shared this at the retreat. Her suggestion was to start within to understand your value and receive your community.
3. Don’t Forget To Be Silent
Notice how you are “acting” when you are in community (when you are in any situation with more than yourself, you are in community). Are you being present to listen or are you just waiting for your turn to speak? The Huntress (Axiom of Translation), Ann Thomas*, just returned from a silent retreat. She shared her experiences with the group and explained her new awareness on deep listening to receive more community. So, take time when you are out in community to notice if you are truly listening. If not, there’s an opportunity for you to be silent.
Here are two extra tips for you from myself and Kathy Smyly Miller (respectively). Kathy is the co-creator of the Business of Soul program.
Don’t Assume
Often we assume what people are thinking and feeling. Don’t forget we are bringing our own limiting beliefs to this assumptions. When you stop assuming, you give people the opportunity to act more Soulfully.
Let Love In*
It is amazing how many ways we close off ourselves to what we really want — to be loved and supported. The same place where you are judging yourself is where you will judge your community. Set the intention daily to offer yourself and your community love and allow your world to shift.
